    I recently read “Casino Royale”. I really liked it for the first couple pages and thought it was a quick read.

    Overall, I was not a fan of the book at all. I thought Bond was foolish and I’d say like 98% of the book is just poker stuff. Are there any high action, exciting spy books?

      These will be dated, but;

      Check author Adam Hall for the boons about a “first burn” agent named Quiller. These are short and action heavy.

      Le Carre wrote a series of books with various heros. Some of these have been made into movies. This tend to be ‘thinky’ until they blow up at the end

      Robert Ludlum writes books with untrained protagonists that get sucked into spy-type situations against espionage professionals.

      Author Trevanian wrote two books, Shibumi and The Eiger Sanction with a hero named Hell. Again, dated but fun.
