I’ve read books that make me sad, give me an existential crisis, all that. I just want feel-good books, I have enough to be sad about! Not particularly just funny or silly, but a HAPPY book.
The Darling Buds of May by H.E. Larkin. There’s a lovely TV series made with a very young Catherine Zeta Jones. Delightful slice of bucolic English country life with an eccentric and jovial large family.

Anything really by Alexander McCall Smith – he writes books where the characters are reflective and muse gently about life. Nothing very bad happens so they’re relaxing while also thoughtful and gently funny. The 44 Scotland Street series or the Sunday Philosopher’s Club series are good places to start.

Pallieter by Felix Timmermans is as happy and as carefree as it gets.
It has been translated into English but the availability seems to be limited.
