Looking for good books where "things are bad, but there's hope, and they get better" is a core component of the story. E.g. The general Star Trek universe, WWIII happens but we come together as a species and make it to the stars. LotR, the world is plunged into chaos, but is saved by friendship and just a normal guy that's along for the ride.
Specifically not looking for:
- Star Trek books
- Children/YA fiction
- Stories where things only get better because of supernatural intervention, either via a "Chosen One" mechanic or otherwise
