I want to read more romance novels, but I can't stand the stereotypical alpha male or the dark and broody dominant guys that seem to be in a lot of them.
I'd especially like to get into historical adventure romances, but have been running into a lot of "broody and tough pirate captain/disgraced duke/whatever kidnaps/gets stuck with Infuriatingly Beautiful Mouthy Wench" and that dynamic is just not my bag.
In terms of what I do like, I read the first Outlander book and liked Jamie's whole deal (but had trouble with Claire), and this is a deep cut but I loved Alexander from The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. And it's not a romance, but I loved the dynamic in Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell.
Can be a recent release or an old one, M/F or F/F or M/M or any combination, with a little bit of plot thrown in there for good measure.
