Want to hear more about books by Japanese authors (that aren’t manga)

I know some of the more famous authors and books like Natsume Soseki, Ranpo Edogawa, Osamu Dazai, etc, but wouldn't mind hearing about specific ones from them either because I'm new to this subset of novels still. I'm more interested in dark and introspective storylines, but thought that was too vague by itself.
