I’m looking to read a book from every US state. And then a book from every country. I need the setting/culture of the area to be very well represented and described. Nature, cities, language, people, etc. preferably the author is from the area. But I don’t want it to be ABOUT the place. Just a work of fiction that happens to take place there.
For example: Mysterious Skin. Growing watermelons and playing baseball in Kansas.
Not good example (good book but didn’t fit my criteria): Pachinko. Korean culture but taking place in Japan. Didn’t get a good sense of where I was.
