So recently I read Eragon, before that I read the Harry Potter trilogy. I’ll be frank, I was left a little underwhelmed, they both were nice but lacked flairs I’ve come to seek in this type of literature.
I love magic fiction, fiction like Eragon with elves, swords, dragons, and stories. Whilst Harry Potter the magic was so cool.
What I’m really looking for in a book is something with a similar setting to Eragon, a world with elves, dragon, and magical creatures of all kinds that have a big part. But the most important part of what I’m looking for that separates these is that I’m looking for a maturity that they don’t offer, a maturity in romance, a maturity in the fighting, I want it to vivid and not made to be PG or PG13.
I’m fine with smut and gore, I’m really looking for a novel similar to the Eragon story with a more romance approach, and more maturity or more descriptive.
Ok to be honest I’m really sorry that sucks for a description, if you guys have questions please let me know and I’ll try to describe what I’m looking for better, sorry again!

The Witcher book series – Great story, fantasy world, magical bounty hunter of sorts. Has a show and game based off it.
Poppy Wars Trilogy – Magic military school, the gods are coming back, fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance
Mistborn series – Magic heist story. Was apparently inspired by the idea of ‘what if harry Potter had failed in defeating the evil guy’
Voyage of the Damned – WhoDunIt set in a fantasy world with dragons and different fantasy races, fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance, has romance elements.
Babel – Olden day/Victorian ish England but there’s magic (interesting magic system)
Caraval (and related books)
Percy Jackson series – Is for younger audiences but gets darker/older as it goes along and is like if Harry Potter was better and about Greek gods instead of general magic.
Circe by Madeline Miller – Greek myths, darkish themes
Rivers of London series – Magic police in London
Also I’m personally not a fan but they are extremely popular so I’d be remiss not to mention Sarah J Maas books (especially ACOTAR and Throne of Glass) and Fourth Wing Trilogy which are both more romance geared fantasy.
Perhaps have a look at Vengeance and Honour by Ben Dixon. It has elves, magic, a dragon, violence etc. It’s a rescue quest adventure that’s new but really exciting, humorous and action-packed.
