Hi, the title is self explanatory, I see all my friends read and praise spicy books, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I don't know where to start, so I thought that I could ask here. I read mostly everything when comes to non-spicy romance, but I still have my preferences. I want to try the genre mostly because I'm deconstructing some beliefs (not religious, I just thought that I was too high and mighty for romance and smut, I believe that that's plain old internalized misogyny).

    • I'm 32, so I prefere mature romance with adults, I don't really like young adults and teenagers in my romance, probably because I'm old lol;

    • I like both fantasy and non fantasy books, so I'm open to everything, but if I have to narrow it down a little, probably fantasy or pirates. Dark romance is also on the table, to be fair it is a genre that intrigues me. The only big NO is mafia, I'm from Italy and I really cannot romanticize it.

    • The plot must be on point, I've been an avid reader since childhood and I'm looking for something entertaining from both plot and spicy content. I don't mind if there is a lot of it, but the character should have a good reason to do so.

I'm sure that there's something out there, so thank you in advance.

My wife tells me Neon God’s is really good. I believe it’s about the Greek Gods, and she says the spice is top notch.
      P.S 32 isn’t old, lol

    2. Just hear me out you should try Morning Glory Milking Farm by CM Nascosta and the rest of the books in the series. All of them have really sweet stories to go along with the spice.

I just binged all of Julia Connors books. They’re interconnected but you don’t *have* to read them in order if any of the plots interest you more than others. All of her novels have MCs in their mid 20s to 30s (i think 1 is in her early 40s) and they’re all successful in their own careers. She writes strong female leads and fantastic smut. All her books have to do with different professional winter sports.

Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi. This book is recommended over and over on the romance book sub for a reason. Top notch billionaire romance.

Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonman Young was sooo good. I adored this book and regret leaving it on my TBR so long. MCs are late 20s. This is an accidental pregnancy from one night stand trope

Savor It by Tara Dewitt was a cute rom com with good smut and MCs in their late 20s or early 30s I believe. Small town woman, big time chef from NY who is there for only the summer.

Honestly, I’m Totally Faking It by Amanda Gambill. So funny and great smut. He’s an uptight politician and she’s an assistant to the assistant. I believe they’re late 20s

Not in Love by Allie Hazelwood (or really most by her works I think but this one is def smuttier than the others I’ve read by her). MMC and his company buy the company MFC is working at and it’s a forbidden relationship.

There are so many books that I could recommend but one of the best ones to start out in my opinion would be Camera Shy by Kay Cove. As for fantasy I can definitely second the Series A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. She also has two more series that are really great as well, The Throne of Glass Series and The Crescent City series. If you really want to jump in head first you could also try Harley Laroux’s souls trilogy.

    5. I was never a fan of romance novels at all until I read The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang and I have a friend who rereads it from time to time because she loves it so much.

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa was another straight romance I appreciated.

Gonna get a lot of down votes for how basic I am but: fourth wing and from blood and ash
But I also do second the Neon Gods series

    7. Try Paladin’s Grace by T Kingfisher. Older heroine, lots of pining, relatable feelings, attempted murder, spies… little bit of spice

Highly recommend either the Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver – I made my husband read these and he actually really enjoyed them! Or if you want a fantasy series try A Court of Thorns and Roses!

    9. there are a lot of good options, but what orientation are you interested in? straight, mlm, wlw, kink/no kink, etc..?

also there’s some nuance between novels with erotic elements, erotica, and smut specifically; which of those are you more open to?
