I’m looking for book recommendations for my almost 13-year-old son, especially ones with great audiobooks since he loves reading along while listening. He’s on the spectrum, very smart, and a gamer who gets bored easily, so the story needs to be engaging and fast-paced. He also loves books with humor, so anything with a strong sense of wit or satire is a plus!
He has kind of moved on from kid books and on to adult books, but for a while would only read graphic novels and then went through a year or so when he just wouldn’t read at all.
Very recently he absolutely loved Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend, which has a good mix of action and satire, It has some adult themes but isn’t overly graphic, gory or overtly focused on sex.
He also liked Ready Player One (though didn’t read the sequel for some reason.) I’ve thought about Project Hail Mary since he likes sci-fi, but I’m not sure if it might be too complex for him.
I’d love recommendations for books in a similar vein—doesn’t have to be the same genre, but something with humor, an exciting story, and ideally a great audiobook version. Any suggestions?
