I enjoy a good cry in a book. I lean and enjoy memoirs the most. A book that will emotionally mark my being.

Some books I have treasured in my life:

    1.) The Long Goodbye – Meghan O’Rourke
    – read it after my mother died of cancer. Very similar story to mine. I reach for it when grief takes ahold of me.
2.) The Glass Castle – Jeannette Walls
3.) Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro
4.) A Man Called Ove – Fredrick Blackman.
5.) An Unquiet Mind – KRJ
    6.) The Tao of Pooh

I want a somewhat believable story. One that knocks the wind out of me. A story that destroys me and leaves an impact on my soul. The one that doesn’t necessarily change my view but allows me to see various ones. One that will leave an impact.

Please suggest a book that has changed your way of thinking. One that made you weep. One that just really gets to you.

I’m sure you’ve possibly read it already, but Demon Copperhead did this in the most unexpected way.

    2. if you want a book that you cant even bear to look at afterwards and leaves you in a somewhat depressive state for days to weeks to months id recommend A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

    3. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, also a memoir and focusing (among other things) on the author losing her mother to cancer so you might find it quite an emotional read. A beautiful book, I cannot recommend it enough! Another book that comes to mind is Young Mungo (or even Shuggie Bain but I personally preferred the former) by Douglas Stuart, different, but likewise brilliant. (P.S. I’m so sorry for your loss.)
