I always had a goal to read 52 books a year. But I usually have an additional goal to sort of give the year some direction; one year it was more female authors, another was reading non-western authors etc (last year was "just" completing Anna Karinnina).
This year nothing came to mind, but I discover the new challenges on Goodreads. I figured it would force me out of my comfort zone and maybe I could discover some new favorite genres.
However the Sweet and Spicy challenge is a romance challenge (choose 1 of the 100 highest rated romance books published the past three years)… and I am not a fan. When it comes to modern romance, I honestly sometimes felt like I was reading subpar fanfiction. However, there must be something in there for me. And since I know a lot of people love romance and champions the genre, I kindly ask for some help. I love Jane Austen and that's romance right? There was a pretty important romance subplot in Legends and Lattes as well. Is there anything in there like that?
This year I have read (and enjoyed:
1.The body keeps the score
2.Where they burn books
3.They also burn people
4. Welcome to the Hyunam-dong bookshop (has a romance subplot)
5. Howls moving castle (love is very important for the plot!)
6. Our Wives Under the sea
7. Ninth House (honestly not a big fan of this one)
8. My Brilliant Friend
Romance I have read and disliked:
Two first ACOTAR books since people keept telling me I would enjoy them.
Very popular hockey books recommend to me. They seem formulaic and I feel like I know the whole story after one chapter.
