What’s the best standalone book you read in the last year or so?

I normally read books that are part of a series, but I read a couple standalones last year.

The best one I read, for me, was Fellowship of Puzzlemakers. I'm not even a puzzle fanatic myself but I just really connected to that book and found it deeply moving.

Close runner-up would be The Cat Who Saved Books as I love books and surrealism.
