I use to read a TON in my childhood and into my teens, but once I hit university I got so overwhelmed by the amount of academic reading I had to do for undergrad and grad school that I just stopped reading for enjoyment minus the occasional book in the summer months when on break. I feel like I got stunted in this teen reading phase which consisted of a ton of YA romance related novels and dystopia.
I’m not longer as interested in those topics, but it’s like that’s all my brain knows how to get engaged in so I still tend to gravitate/stick with those types of books as an adult even though I don’t really enjoy the process.
One book I really enjoyed was Yellowface by RF Kuang. I read it a few months ago and it managed to get my attention quickly and keep it with an interesting plot. The parts that I liked about it were the unreliable narrator, quick pace of the story and a start to the book that immediately making me wonder how it was going to end.
Any recommendations for books that give a similar vibe in terms of pace and quick engagement at the start? I am not picky on the topic
