I’m an avid reader and I promised my friend I would get her a book for her birthday, but I’m not sure what to pick. She told me that the only book she really remembers enjoying was about Nordic mythology (she couldn’t give me a specific title, told me it was a long time ago but it was just a recollection of Nordic myths), so I’d like to look into something related to that? (Nordic specifically, because I know she tried Greek and Roman and disliked both.) Does anyone know any books that could be a good fit?

The Book of Loki by Joanne Harris might fit the bill! It’s the Norse myths, told exclusively from Loki’s POV
*The Witch’s Heart* by Genevieve Gornichec, a novel about Angrboda, the wife of Loki
If you think she’d be onboard with non-fiction, I’d recommend The Northwomen by Heather Pringle. There is also a new one out that I haven’t read yet, but sounds great and is on my list is Embers of the Hands by Eleanor Barraclough.
I love the Rick Riordan books. He has series for Norse, Greek, Roman, & Egyptian. There’s probably more but that’s off the top of my head.
Neil Gaiman did a retelling of Norse Mythology, I wonder if that’s what the book was. (Not that I’d recommend anything of his now, but if she hasn’t read it she might still enjoy it).
Norse myths and legends by Emilie K Baker.
The Gospel of Loki (1) and The Testament of Loki (2) by Joanne Harris are on my TBR this year. I haven’t read them yet but i LOVE everything else I’ve read from this author.
She also has another Norse mythology series for a more YA audience, the Runemarks duology.
Miiight be a stretch but Road of Bones by Demi Winters is a really engaging Nordic inspired fantasy. Less mythology but the inspiration is there.
Another popular easy fantasy is Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle Jensen. I didn’t like it as much but it has more direct Norse mythology inspiration.
