I’m looking for recommendations for the most stylishly written recent releases in nonfiction.

I looked through the following nonfiction recent releases to find the most best-written one of the month. I’ve ranked them all from 1 to 10 for the quality and originality of their prose.

The Fall: The End of the Murdoch Empire 8 I realise we’re all meant to dislike Michael Wolff, and I dutifully do. Nevertheless the prose in this book has some life to it, which was by no means the case with all these books.

    Madonna by Mary Gabriel 5

Emperor of Rome by Mary Beard 5

Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) by Sly Stone 3 (sorry, Sly!)

    Eve by Cat Bohannon 4

How to Say Babylon: A Memoir 9 The best-written book on this list.

Barry Cryer: Same Time Tomorrow? 6

I Love Russia by Elena Kostyuchenko 4

You May Never See Us Again: The Barclay Dynasty by Jane Martinson 5

    Toxic by Sarah Ditum 5

Determined: Life Without Free Will by Robert Sapolsky 7

A Death in Malta by Paul Caruana Galizia 4

A Northern Wind: Britain 1962-1965 by David Kynaston 5

Have I missed out on any especially well-written nonfiction recent releases (published in the last three months)? If so, please let me know.

    1. Michael Lewis just put out Going Infinite, the story of Sam Bankman-Fried and his crypto exchange. He’s always an entertaining read.
I also just read The Hank Show – this was a WILD history of the birth of data surveillance and Hank Asher. It’s written by McKenzie Funk and is an absolute thrill ride. A cocaine smuggler turned data genius – a great read and a real eye opened.
