I’m searching for a physiological/horror novel with beautiful prose and a healthy romantic subplot. The subplot between the two characters can be tragic or destructive but I don’t want any “dark romances” where the guy stalks or beats or fantasies about killing her, nothing like Haunting Adeline. I want the two to love each other sincerely. I’d also prefer a supernatural or fantasy element to the horror but it’s not a requirement.

Have you tried *The Silent Companions* by Laura Purcell? It’s got eerie atmosphere, a touch of the supernatural, and a beautifully tragic love story!
