I love when the main character is confused at the opening and slowly discovers the world around them. I enjoy their curiosity of their new surroundings and the strange logic they may come up with.
The book doesn’t necessarily need to be sci-fi, but it must be some strange circumstance to make the world they find themselves in completely foreign and unrecognizable for me to say it fits what I’m asking for.
I want to see and feel the struggle they experience when adjusting to this world. No isekai type books where the character quickly catches on to new mannerisms and social normalities. They’re gonna struggle, and that’s what makes it realistic in my opinion.
Edit to add more: The main thing is that they must not know how or why they are where they are in the beginning of the book. They can discover it later, but they can’t remember/know it at the beginning.
