Whenever I search for books in fictional countries, I tend to find stories with magic/fantasy elements set in modern day setting or a completely different worldbuilding. However, I haven't been able to find a book where it takes place on a modern day setting, but has no fantasy, no magic, with a slight change in our current geography.
To elaborate on this, I don't want:
- Fictional countries whose existence wouldn't make much difference to the world (Small countries).
- Alternate map of an existing country/continent that has been renamed.
- Post-apocalyptic/Fantasy/Science-fiction or anything outside of realistic elements.
- A different worldbuilding or geography from our existing one besides the existence of that country.
- Fictional places that are part of an existing country/continent.
I want to see:
- A fictional country whose existence would be notorious addition to the existing world geography.
- Modern day/Contemporary setting.
- The elements of the story are realistic and/or use the fictional country to talk about topics that normally wouldn't be explored in an existing country. (If it's dystopian, it must be a realistic one.)
- Any worldbuilding is limited to the fictional country, nowhere beyond that.
