Need something to distract me from the news and have read a lot of heavy and disturbing nonfiction lately (that I’ve enjoyed!) but could use something that I can just escape into. It’s okay if it has heavy themes still. Just want something entrancing.
Not into romance as a main plot or anything mythical. I especially like books that are well-written/poetry-like prose, and/or help me feel like I’m learning about another culture/time in history. 450 pages and under preferred.
I’ve enjoyed these in the past:
– A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (and The Kite Runner)
– The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’ Farrell
– The Romanov Brides by Clare McHugh
– The Devil on Her Tongue by Linda Holeman
– We’re All Adults Here by Emma Straub
– Hurricane Summer by Asha Bromfield
Thank you!
