I used to absolutely devour any book that was set in front of me, but after a series of books I had to read for my AP literature class (first I got randomly selected to do a book report on The Road by Cormac McCarthy, then the whole class had to read Don Quixote, and then for a second report I randomly got something by Hemingway) I kind of quit reading. The Road genuinely made me queasy, Don Quixote was needlessly drawn out and large part of the book involved the old mc falling in love with some young maiden or something like that, and Hemingway was alright but not particularly interesting.

Before I mostly quit reading I read pretty much everything by Riordan and Brandon Mull, Skullduggery pleasant, Lotr, and some various fantasy/sci-fi books.

Since then I’ve pretty much only read some stuff by Krakauer and various psych studies. I tried to get into Mistborn but it didn’t really capture my attention (I think it was more of an issue with the world/setting than Sanderson’s writing). Any suggestions?

    1. Try anything by Rose George, Judy Melinek, Caitlin Doughty, or Mary Roach.

“The Gift of Fear” (a very important read) by Gavin De Becker.

“Five days at Memorial: life and death in a storm-ravaged hospital” by Sherri Fink.

    2. Maybe try The Expanse series (Leviathan Wakes is the first book)? It’s science-fiction and it has the sweep and relatable characters that you find in Riordan and LotR, but set in in a very believable near future.

    3. Maybe you need nonfiction?

The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

If you want fiction, maybe The Princess Bride by William Goldman
