I am a huge fan of the pirate genre but was mainly a film and video game guy. After reading Lord Of The Rings and Journey to the Center of the Earth I am getting more and more into reading. I am wandering if there are any swashbuckling pirate books that have the large world and character journeys that you find in Lord of the Rings.
On top of that, as someone who looks into a lot of pirate history, I love interacting with pirate media but most media shows the romantic side of piracy such as the desire for freedom from tyranny. While this is understandable for most forms of media I feel like there is an untapped goldmine of stories that might be fun to read with the romanticism form of pirates interacting with the harsh reality that majority of pirates were violent criminals. Is there any books that do this at all?
