A year and a half ago there was a cultural debate in my country (Sweden) about how often men think of the Roman empire. (For a background article in English google “The Roman empire: why men just can’t stop thinking about it”. Previous attempt was deleted because I provided a link to it.)
As someone who never thinks of ancient Rome this was surprising to me. In order to connect to my fellow countrymen, please give me your favourite books from/on the Roman empire. Looking for contemporary writers/poets/philosophers as well as modern fiction and non-fiction titles.
