Hello! I haven't read much since I was in high school, even though i was always the kid with her head in a book. I've picked up a few and really enjoyed getting back into it, but struggle to find anything I want to read. I just got a kindle and a library card to check out ebooks, so I'm looking for suggestions on what to read. I've also got kindle unlimited, so I'm open to suggestions that can be found on there as well.

Some things I like: fantasy settings (not a fan of vampires or assassin stories though, which most fantasy I've found seem to be), historical fiction, female protagonist, magic (especially of the faerie variety), psychological head scratchers, and mystery (especially true crime and historical).

Things I don't like: vampires/werewolves/assassin's (they can exist in the world but shouldn't be the main focus), spicy content, strictly romance stories (can be an element, but shouldn't be the whole story), gore

I've been spending a lot of time reading kids and teen fiction with a little bit of young adult mixed in but would like to find more adult/ young adult material. To try out my card and kindle, I just finished reading Winterborne Home and really loved it.

Books I've liked in the recent past:
-Fever by Karen Marie Moning (content was almost too much here but I liked the story itself enough to get through the spicy bits)
    – harry potter
    – winterborne home
    -pax
    – mysterious Benedict society
    – warriorcats (too easy for me but it's sentimental)
    – beneath devils bridge by loreth Anne white
    – realm of lore and lies by Claire Wright
    – the witches tree by Elena Collins
    – Matilda by roald dahl
    – the book thief
    – Percy Jackson
    – the things she left behind by Ellen marie Wiseman

I know I'm kinda picky and my reading is all over the place. It's why I have such a hard time finding books. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher

I think it would have a similar vibe. It is paranormal fantasy but no vampires. More like pokemon.
