Something engaging enough to keep us awake and entertained, but tame enough that won't inspire any fights or akwkard moments (he's a lifelong Republican bless his heart and I'm the crazy social justice eldest daughter), driving along the Oregon trail so would be fun to do something historical- I really enjoyed Undaunted Courage on my last road trip. He likes mystery and true crime. I like pretty much everything. Would love a couple different auddio book suggestions!

That sounds like an incredible trip! Since you loved *Undaunted Courage* and your dad’s into mystery and true crime, I’d recommend *Astoria* by Peter Stark, it’s got all the adventure and high-stakes drama of an early American expedition to the West Coast, perfect for the Oregon Trail route. For a true crime pick that’s gripping but not too dark, *Say Nothing* by Patrick Radden Keefe dives into an unsolved murder during the Troubles in Northern Ireland and reads like a mystery. And if you want something historical but with a fast-paced, novel-like feel, *Destiny of the Republic* by Candice Millard is a fantastic mix of political intrigue, medical drama, and a fascinating look at President Garfield’s assassination. Those should keep the drive interesting without any political landmines. I hope you have an amazing trip!

I just finished this book last week. Highly entertaining. Fits perfectly with your scenario. May change the way you see people, news and social media.
