Hey everyone! Im looking for some good books with a space theme. I love reading books that are more on the information side. Like Death by blackhole by Neil degrasse Tyson. Or A Brief History of Time by Stephen hawking.

I would love to read some story books for once. Do you guys have any good recommendations?

    Thank you!!

    1. Not a Story book, but you might be interested in *The Space Transportation Systems Reference* – Christopher Coggon . It’s basically a reference manual for the space shuttles. It has everything from schematic drawings for the panel with all the controls for using the toilet, to an explanation of how the passive thermal control systems work.

If you want a science fiction series that is more scienc-y than “black box makes ships go fast” type of science magic, then look at the Honour Harrington books by David Weber. It gets into detail about the “science” behind how the ships move around, how advances in technology impact warfare, as well as having a decent story woven through it. He put just as much thought into how his universe works as he did in creating the characters that live there.

Contact by Carl Sagan is the perfect middle ground. It’s a fictional story, but obviously Mr. Sagan used real astrophysics/astronomy to fill in the details.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey, which won the Booker Prize last year. Great read – short, well-written, thoughtful fiction – but not much in there in terms of ‘story’

    4. The Martian by Andy Weir. An astronaut gets accidentally stranded on Mars after his mission is cut short and has to figure out how to survive and get home.
