Keep me reading! I’m tired of getting tired of a book and trudging through it because I have to finish.

Not looking for fantasy, sci-fi, or horror, please. I’ve read Backman and Amor Towles and would like recs that maybe are more unique. If you’ve seen it recommended a hundred times on these subreddits, that’s most likely not the book I’m looking for. 😬 I enjoy humor but also melancholy.

(I also like James Herriot, Richard Osman and Jerome K. Jerome)

Ones that have looked interesting to give you an idea (and while these all sound more adventurous, that’s not technically what I’m looking for). And at this point, even I’m not sure of what I’m looking for exactly….

The Which Way Tree by Elizabeth Crook – girl’s mother is killed in a panther attack and the girl is mauled. The girl then goes on a quest to track and kill the panther.

Loot by Tania James – a teenage boy is commissioned to carve an automaton tiger for a Sultan. The tiger is eventually stolen and so the MC goes to another country to get it back.

The Last Lifeboat by Hazel Gaynor – after their boat is torpedoed, a teacher must help her students survive in a lifeboat on the sea.
