Anglo saxon England era books? Alongside Normand conquest and Edward I

I am reading Marc Morris triology of England and I am absolutely loving it.

My plan is to read each book and just after read a novel set on the period explored on said book.

I am finishing the Anglo-Saxon period and I would love a book which is either one shot, or at most a trilogy.

I know of the last kingdom, but it goes on forever, and ken follet has a precuele of pillars of the earth, but I am bit tired of the authors formula at this point.

Any recomendation?
