I tend to like gritty nihilistic fiction. Winters Bone, The Devil All The Time (or anything by David Ray Pollock really). And before it's suggested, I have tried Blood Meridian. Just can't get into it unfortunately.
Check out books by Bret Easton Ellis (LESS THAN ZERO and GLAMORAMA are pretty bleak/gritty).
DIGGING THE VEIN by Tony O’Neill.
NOTICE by Heather Lewis.
HIGH LIFE by Matthew Stokoe.
THE END OF ALICE by A.M. Homes is dark as hell.
ALL THE UGLY AND WONDERFUL THINGS by Bryn Greenwood.
If you like your nihilism with a twist of disturbing sexual content: TAMING THE BEAST by Emily Maguire, INNOCENTS by Cathy Coote, TAMPA by Alissa Nutting.
Hopefully at least a couple of those aren’t titles you see recommended too often!
