TL;DR: medieval, but not only focused on how serious and harsh life is; would love a little absurdity and slapstick
Does this exist? Novels that take place in the Middle ages but make you laugh from their absurdity?
So, my boyfriend has been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance II, and while it isn't my style of game to play myself (too hard and clunky for my taste), I can't get enough of watching him play!
It's things like this
– Henry (the game's main character) is on the way to the next place in a quest line. Walking past a table, someone tells him to get them more wine. Henry refuses (why should he?), the other guy attacks him, they brawl, Henry wins. A guard walks by, sees this, and Henry ends up at the pillory (he just wanted to walk by a table 😭😂)
– Henry walks around at night, a guard asks him why he's walking around without a torch. Henry lights a torch, the guard sees how filthy dirty he is and says he now understands why he was walking around without a torch and that he should put it out 😭
– The sheer amount of cabbages you encounter in the game. It's absurd. There are piles of cabbages everywhere, always making you wonder what the hell is going on there 😂 (and in one place, there's a guy who stole a shit ton of cabbages to make Sauerkraut from it)
I guess the upper end of absurdity I am looking for would be the show Miracle Workers Season 2. But I've never heard of that style in a book!
Looking forward to recommendations. Thank you so much! ❤️
