Airman by Eoin Colfer and Fairy Tale by Stephen King?
Anymore books like these? Serious without going overboard? Excellent characters. Lots of struggle and low on 'love' and horror, without necessarily being absent (can be, would prefer it to less than too much).
I am usually a MG/YA reader, but would like to read something…not adult in nature, but not written at a child's reading level. I don't like a lot of romance. More importantly, I enjoy authors who enjoy playing with words and who have engaging characters.
Fairy Tale was my first King book, mostly because I am not a fan of horror. Wouldn't mind other not-horror reccomendations of his.
