I love reading nonfiction books, but hate when they feel like I'm reading a textbook. I love mystery, history, health, autobiographies, and anything else you throw at me!
The whole narrative nonfiction genre is what you’re after. Check out:
Bad Blood by John Carryrou
Red Notice by Bill Browder
All The Devils Are Here by Bethany McLean

Two health-related or health-adjacent nonfiction books I couldn’t put down:
What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo (TW for childhood neglect)
Vagina Obscura by Rachel E. Gross (fascinating and under-studied, under-reported)
Not health-related but very relevant:
The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
Last Stop Auschwitz by Eddy de Wind

The Saboteur Paul Kix
Moneyball Michael Lewis
The Informant Kurt Eichenwald

The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. It’s a bit grisly as it tells the story of the Donner Party, but it’s an excellent book.
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is another one I enjoyed that sort of fits this.

I just finished *The Wager* by David Grann! I don’t read a ton of nonfiction, but this really had an excellent pace. I also love Mary Roach for engaging non-fiction!

Do no harm by Henry Marsh. A brain surgeons memoirs written in a really interesting way.

Check out pretty much everything by Erik Larson. Devil in the White City is phenomenal, but the rest are solid too, and he has a fairly wide variety of topics to choose from.
