I'm a dude with a disability, and while I've not yet read The Bluest Eye (though I plan to this week, because Toni Morrison is one of my favorite authors) I understand that it is (broadly, perhaps?) a Black girl who wants desperately to be a white girl? That concept sounds absolutely fascinating, and I feel that I can do something interesting with that concept, though pertaining to disability and my experiences and insecurities with it.

I'm looking, really, for nuanced fiction that discusses disability in a way that is neither condescending nor stripped down to merely the basics of that experience. Just to get a sense for the angle from which to approach such a project.

    Thanks!
