I recently lost my 4 year old daughter to cancer. I’m not the big reader, but I’m considering it as a way of both distracting myself but also to potentially use it as some sort of therapy. I have a feeling that I would benefit from connecting with a character going through the same or something similar. What are your thoughts and potential suggestions?
For clarification, I’m also seeing a real psychiatrist.
My preferred genre is fantasy, but I’m open to try new genres as well.

    1. *Hamnet* by Maggie O’Farrell comes to mind — immensely beautiful story about a family grieving the loss of their young son (mostly from the mother’s point of view, if I remember correctly). It’s technically historical fiction about Shakespeare (who wrote Hamlet about that son), so it FEELS kind of fantastical.

I’m so, so sorry for your loss.
