I feel as though I am not well versed when it comes to reading and would love some suggestions. I have a habit of not finishing things because I don’t want them to end (good tv shows, book series, chores, etc.) It’s one of my goals in 2025 to overcome that as well as a few other things. I feel the need to include my goals down below and maybe I can check back to see how far I’ve come. And then I will talk about books and themes I love already.
Goals (feel free to skip) :
– Finish Respiratory School (currently in my 4th semester and in need of healthy distractions)
– Get Engaged (I have a lovely girlfriend of 5 years who deserves a proposal)
– Delete Social Media
– Read more books
– Take care of myself (eating and fitness)
Some Themes I tend to enjoy:
- Coming of Age
- Romance
- Strong Protagonist (good characterization)
- Redemption
- Perserverance
- Transformation
- Good vs. Evil
- Beauty
- Life and Death
Classics I Loved in High School:
- Great Gatsby
- Count of Monte Cristo
- 1984
- Frankenstein
- Fahrenheit 451
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- Lord of The Rings
That’s about it… I haven’t read much since then and I feel as though I am behind when it comes to literature. I’ve always enjoyed an epic story like LOTR and Brandon Sanderson’s work. I am currently reading Red Rising, but I would love something a little bit more challenging.
Films I love that might help narrow down what I’m looking for:
- La Jeté
- Synecdoche, New York
- Cinema Paradiso
- Three Colors Blue
- About Time
- The Apartment
- La Dolce Vita
- A Woman Under The Influence
- L’Avventura
- La Haine
- Through A Glass Darkly
- Oldboy
- Bladerunner (new and OG)
- Unforgiven
- Parasite
