I lost someone close to me, and could use a book that does not imply the way to happiness is finding a new love. Friends, found family, etc would be fine but not finding love again.
My favorite genre is sci-fi, but not limited to it and I don't like Becky Chambers or anything you'd describe as "cozy."
Even better if the main character is sarcastic, depressed, and/or starting over. The Wedding People was almost perfect for this, except for the focus on romance.
Thank you

The Offing by Benjamin Myers
A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness. It’s a fantasy book with a fairy tale style, and if possible you should read the version with illustrations. The main character is a boy and there’s no romance.
And, I am sorry for your loss.
