I’m not looking to be converted to any religion, but want to study as many different religions as I can to grow my understanding of humanity and the world we live in. I want to approach it with distanced objectivity and empathy for the people who believe in these religions and spirituality practices. I’ll keeping a journal of my thoughts as I go. It’s intended to be a lifelong project. I’m just not sure where to start.

Are you interested in fiction? One of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read is Peace Like a River by Leif Enger, which has some strong Christian aspects without being heavy handed.
As far as nonfiction, I’m most familiar with Christianity but Philip Yancey and Tim Keller are both great starting points to learn more about Christianity again without being super preachy or anything
Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. Though I’m an atheist and obviously disagree with his views, I liked his style: short, clear, specific
