So my mid-twenties brother is serving time for bad behavior. Not his first time.
Fortunately, my brother is really enjoying reading now! We’ve taken turns sending him books. He always requests murder and shit, and I feel weird about it. (It’s probably worth mentioning that he’s never hurt anyone (that I know of) we just all struggle with addiction and the problems that come with it). For all of our own reasons, my immediate family (myself included) have entered an era of growth, whether we like it or not.
I want to give him resources for growth and healing, but I also don’t want to be too pushy or embarrass him in front of his friends.
He’s a smart kid. He can read between the lines. I can send multiple book at once, but I also need to be mindful that he might be in there for 5+ years.
So please share your recommendations for books that might enlighten him a bit, push him to think a little harder, urge him to reflect. But not make him eye roll so hard he misses the message.
And don’t worry. I’ll still be sending his murder books. 🥴

Demon Copperhead could be a good one
Maybe take a look at this list and see if you think of these would appeal to him? [https://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/2NQXW3DD8V7HZ/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awwl_xs_vpJSybYBA8CJC](https://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/2NQXW3DD8V7HZ/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awwl_xs_vpJSybYBA8CJC)
The perfect book for him is Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward. It’s actually the story of a boy on his way with his sister and drug addicted mother to pick his dad up who is being released from prison. It is an amazing book.
