Looking for stories about wizards/mad scientists/etc sacrificing their bodies for power

I don't know of any books like this, but think the scene in Snow White where the queen transforms herself into a hag.

Ideally, the wizard is male, the protagonist, and the story is told in first-person perspective. Body horror is also a plus.
