I've recently finished The Witcher saga by Sapkowski and I like a few things about it:
    – it's fantasy, but not for young adults or the teenagers
    – it makes the reader think from time to time, it doesn't give all explanations or "easy/convenient explanations"
    – even though it's fantasy, the moral world is very real – it's not pure good is good vs evil is evil, it shows that world is tough and the good doesn't always win or when it does the cost is as important
    – it's not just about the "magic"

So basically I'm a peaky person, but I don't need a novel with a ton of spells and magical creatures if the book is written just for the sake of the abundance of fantasy- I want fantasy so that it's not real, but I don't need to go down the rabbit hole right away – the priority is that the book(s) is just a good piece of writing. Pardon my cinema reference – I'd like to read a novel like a film from Chris Nolan – it's not banal/cliche but it also is made for entertainment, not a full arthouse for the very few chosen ones who like to brag that they read the most difficult stories.

Standalone books, trilogies, series and sagas – all are welcome, I'd like to revisit the post from time to time.
