Hi everyone.
I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with "A hundred hears of solitude" by Garcia Marquez.
All the childs having sexual relationships with adults just made me sick honestly. Don't get me wrong, I love Garcia Marquez and I have read most of his work, but this book was way too much with all the sex between grown ups and children.
I made it to the part where Aureliano marries Remedios and, it clearly states, that she barely made it to womanhood for the wedding. And I just sat there with the book wondering why I was reading this to begin with.
So, I don't think I'll ever finish this book.
Anyone had a similar experience?

Yeah, this was really hard for me to get through as well, it’s also why I couldn’t continue reading. Just too many fucked up things for my modern palate.
Nope, I read it to the end. I don’t judge whether I should continue reading books by what I consider to be my own morals, or I’d barely finish reading anything, to be honest.
Yep, and that the wife had to wear a chastity belt or her husband to be would rape her.
A full grown man sent a child to be groomed by him. No thanks
Whatever you do dont read “War and Peace” – people actually get ***killed*** in that one.
It was a great book. And at one point recently was to be a movie or series. Don’t know what happened with that.
It is historical fiction.
Remedios’ fate is a good stop sign if you don’t wish to go further. There’s more dark content in this book, like zoophilia, incest, murder, deformations, and baby death, massacres, etc.
Edit : oh man, you didn’t even get to Remedios’ fate ! Yeah, stop here, right now. Like, *right now*.
Yes, Marques tends to write 12 years old as developed seductresses ruining poor older men.
Sometimes I wonder what would have changed in his writtings had he had a daughter.
This was my problem with it too. I felt incredibly triggered by the whole book.
No. If the plot is interesting I continue reading despite bad things happening to the characters.
It’s based on the Bible, so makes sense. The Bible is really horrific.
It isnt a true story happening today. It is a work of fiction written about a period of time when things like that were common.
