Books that feel dull and hopeless?

I read Coming Up for Air by George Orwell a bit ago and absolutely loved how it was written. The entire book felt very dull but in the most average sort of way, I really want to read something that will give me the same feeling.

I’m also a pretty big fan of The Stranger for similar reasons.

Any suggestions based off of this are greatly appreciated
