Hello my friends,
Recently, I've slowly been getting back into the habit of reading. At the end of 2024, I finished The Count of Monte Cristo, and just yesterday, I finished Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. I’d love some book recommendations in a similar style.
I tried reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, and similar books, but I couldn’t get into them. I even bought an H.G. Wells collection, but for some reason, it felt a bit too fantastical for me and didn’t capture my interest.
Lately, I’ve been drawn to books that make me think, that convey a powerful message, and where the story isn’t too far removed from real life—maybe based on real events but with fictional characters. Something grounded and reflective, like The Count of Monte Cristo and Crime and Punishment, which helped me develop new principles and reflections.
That’s about it—if you know any books like that, I’d love to hear about them. Or maybe even a fantasy book so good it would prove me wrong about my recent disinterest in the genre. The last fantasy book I read was The Hobbit, and it was truly enchanting. In fact, it was The Hobbit that got me back into reading—I bought it during an Amazon sale and loved it so much I finished it in a week, even though I hadn’t read a book for fun in over five years.
I’m not sure why I’ve been struggling with fantasy and sci-fi lately. I even started Dune, but the beginning already bored me.
