I really love humor novels, but when I search for humor books the overwhelming majority are romantic comedies (often holiday themed). I don't want to filter out romance altogether, I'm all for a romance aspect. I'm just not interested in the fluffy romcom style, if that makes sense. Maybe I just want people to be smarter and meaner, lol.

My favorite book is Less, a good example of a book with romance technically in it but definitely more focused on comedy. I also like P.G Wodehouse books. Recommendations from any era welcome 🙂

    1. Discworld! Terry Pratchett is wonderful!

Tom Holt and Robert Rankin too. John Scalzi is great!

      And of course, Douglas Adams!

    2. John Hodgman’s Vacationland

If you like monsters, A. Lee Martinez and Christopher Moore are great.

    3. If you dont mind weirdness, I suggest the John Dies at the End series, Its Horror Comedy so its not right out comedy but I love them. Also, “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal” or really anything by the author Christopher Moore, my favorite being Lamb and Secondhand Souls.

John Scalzi is very funny if you’re into nerd humor and banter. He’s very much a love him or hate him. I’d start with Kaiju Preservation Society.

Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers is very funny. It’s about a very interfering Chinese-American Auntie trying to solve a murder all while connecting with the motley crew of people connected to the victim. It’s a very sweet, funny story.

Connie Willis writes very witty sci fi and time travel. To Say Nothing of the Dog and The Road to Roswell are both delightful.

Terry Pratchett was mentioned and he is brilliant, one of my lifetime favorite authors.

Douglas Adams is another very funny writer.
