Dark Places deja vu

I'm reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn which I'm pretty confident I've never read before but the relationship between Ben and the young girl Krissi is so familiar. Specifically a preteen girl pursuing a teen boy, she comes to the high school and gives him a love note, they hangout in the school stairwell, and the detail of the high school and middle school being on the same property rings a bell. Is there another book (or maybe tv show/movie) with a very similar plot point?
