Not exactly “scams, spam, and slop,” but two of my favorite reads from last year were “Land of Milk and Honey” and “Girlfriend on Mars.” Both have eccentric billionaire characters doing harmful billionaire things.

*Cloud Atlas* by David Mitchell is comprised of 6 vignettes, and one of them (*An Orison of Sonmi*-*451*) is this, exactly. Honestly I think you could somewhat read just that vignette without reading the rest and still understand it (which I’d recommend, because I didn’t actually like the novel) but many many people love the novel so it might be worth it to read it all!
