Any recommendations on a book on Irish history?

I’m about to visit Ireland for the first time. I’ve read a lot of Irish fiction over the years (about to tackle Ulysses) but what I’d really like is an interesting, entertaining book about the history of Ireland. Any recommendations would be most appreciated.
