For the past couple of years, the only instances where I picked up a book were to aide in my classes: textbooks, Dostoyevsky, Kafka, you name it. I really enjoyed digging deep and identifying recurring themes and all of the literary analysis that comes with being a college student.
However, after about two years of purely reading material out of the necessity to pass a class, I'm burnt out and tired. So I decided that I want to pick up a good book to get lost in, which as I'm writing this, this should've been part of my routine for the past couple years to avoid the position that I'm at.
However, I realized that I really don't know what books I like to read. As mentioned, I don't want to read anything that gets me thinking in depth, I think that my mental health has declined ever since I started getting into Dostoyevsky, I'm feeling a little too underground, without the alcohol abuse, of course. I'm looking to read books that have a good romance plot, possibly Call Me By Your Name related… I loved CMBYN (novel and film). I also find books to help with my recently diagnosed depression helpful. Fun and drama-FILLED are what I'm looking for though. Thank you!!

I just read Andre Acriman’s new memoir Roman Year and I feel like it’s his best writing so far. It’s about his year of life as a refugee in Italy as a senior in high school circa 1965. It’s kind of like a compressed coming of age story. It’s also very episodic that could be put down for awhile and come back to it.
These three are by John Scalzi (no romance, though):
**Starter Villain** is the most entertaining book I’ve read recently. It’s a spoof of the early James Bond movies. A substitute teacher inherits his estranged uncle’s villainy which comes complete with a secret volcanic lair.
**The Kaiju Preservation Society** is … sci-fi fun and Bond-like.
**Redshirts** is a satirical look at space operas from the point-of-view of ‘expendable’ crew.
This is a random assortment going off of your CMBYN/romance/fun-drama filled prompts! Song of Achilles by Madeleine Miller, This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Also maybe check out Ocean Vuong or Sally Rooney.
