    1. I enjoyed the Susan Bauer books, it’s a good outline of basic events from the beginning. It sorta helped me create a framework of world history.

I loved *The Story of Civilization* series by Will & Ariel Durant. But reading those is probably a much grander undertaking than you’re looking for.

For a single volume, although I haven’t read it, *The Dawn of Everything* by Graeber & Wengrow was generally well-received by scholars and general readers. It also does a lot of work to debunk and correct the mistakes of (rightfully) heavily-criticized but popular pop-sci authors like Jared Diamond and Yuval Noah Harari.

    3. A History of the World in Six Glasses is pretty good. I had to read it for a world history class many years ago and it’s the only history book that’s really stuck with me because it related history to various alcohols and their influence on the what was going on in the world during different periods of time
