I love to read. I love to read a lot of different genres. Over the past 5 years or so I have not picked up a book. I like everything including what I call "fun trash".

I am trying to get back into reading and enjoying a world outside of my own. I just started this past January with Forth Wing and the following. Finishing up the 3rd book currently.

I know what people on this sub might think but I am wondering if the Acotar (sp?) series is right for me. I have heard about it but know very little. I do like to have politics and real life situations in a fantasy series. I am okay with spicy scenes if they can progress the plot or if I can skip over without losing plot depending on my mood.

I dont want to go into an "I've read all of this, and some of that, and could not get through this" type of thing. I've read a lot of stuff and am mad at myself for not reading more. I want to read fun and….easier things to get me back where I want to be. I want to fall in love with reading again.

I also hate waiting on books to be written. I have been waiting on Winds of Winter as long as most of you. I think that is finally what put me off years ago.

You might get more discussion in r/romantasy specifically. Also check out r/suggestmeabook and r/booksthatfeellikethis when you have specific requests!

People who read Fourth Wing seem to like ACOTAR. I liked the first ACOTAR ok but for whatever reason I stopped on the second one. I still kind of think it’s worth trying though.

If you’re enjoying fourth wing I vote you give ACOTAR a shot. They’re both easier fantasies that seem to be what you’re looking for right now.

The city of brass is another series that is fun (and finished!), if you’re looking for something after

    4. If you like the Fourth Wing books, you would also like the ACOTAR books. I personally think they are better than the Fourth Wing books.

    5. I’m in the same boat. I tried to start with A Court of Thorns and Roses and couldn’t commit. Made myself finish the Children of Blood and Bone trilogy but quickly went back to only reading assigned textbook chapters.

You might enjoy the Throne of Glass series by the same author a bit more – less romance and more political maneuvering and adventure

I recently finished Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhouse and it was exciting very unique fantasy you might enjoy

I find the best way to get back into reading is to reread a series or book I’ve loved in the past. Hunger Games, Twilight, Eragon. I know I’ll love it and I’ll blow through them, so by the time I’m done I’m ready to hit the ground running.
