    Hello everyone!
I (25F) have a date tomorrow we are meeting at the beach… he told me to bring a book to read to him (30M), we are both kind of nerds. He told me he was excited to see what I bring since I added him to goodreads & I guess he saw what I have read/reviews/want to read lol. I think he might have seen the smut…..
But anyways I’m nervous. I’m thinking of bringing one of the follow, but open to suggestions to have something for us to discuss

    1. Goddess of Anarchy: the life & times of Lucy Parsons
-this one might be funny cuz I told him I am reading how to Kill Men & get away with it

    2. Belladona

    3. same as above

    4. Necronomicon: the Best Weird Tales

    5. might just be cool to read a couple together

    6. Poverty, by America

    7. would give me insight on his political views/himself/his upbringing.
I’m a women of color & mentioned some topics during our first date (like patriarchy/etc & he didn’t react negatively)

    8. How to stop time
-this could be more conversation without getting into deep topics.

    9. The midnight library

    10. Scythe
-sci fic / AI topics which are always fun & I think he would enjoy this one

Scythe hands down!!!!! It’s my go to recommendation for almost anyone!

I would not recommend talking about political stuff early on. As someone whose family member was murdered, I don’t think it’s funny to joke about killing people personally, and he might not either. A book date sounds amazing, but if I was to date a guy and he told me that he was reading a book on how to get away with killing women, I would never go out with him ever again. You just never know.

I would recommend choosing the book you think that he would enjoy, so number three, especially if you think it would prompt interesting conversations.

    3. I feel like Scythe would be a good book to allow discussion of social issues and “fun” topics. The book definitely delves into poverty, race, etc. But it’s also just an incredibly interesting premise for a book. I know my wife and I talked about it for quite awhile after we finished the series.
